Blockages and Bird Nest Removal

One of the most common issues we deal with in chimney sweeping is chimney blockages, often caused by bird nests, debris, soot buildup, or fallen masonry. These blockages can be dangerous if left untreated.

Why is a blocked chimney a problem?

A blocked chimney can:

  • Prevent smoke and fumes (including carbon monoxide) from safely exiting your home

  • Cause poor ventilation or smoke blowback

  • Increase the risk of a chimney fire

  • Lead to unpleasant odours or damp patches

What Causes Chimney Blockages?

  • Bird nests (especially jackdaws)

  • Squirrel nests

  • Twigs, leaves, or debris blown in by the wind

  • Soot and creosote buildup from regular fireplace use

  • Broken or loose masonry from aging chimney structures

Bird Nest Removal

We safely and legally remove bird nests from chimneys, using specialist tools and methods. Nesting is most common in spring and early summer, and a blocked flue must be cleared before the chimney can be safely used.

Note: Under UK law (Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981), it's illegal to remove an active nest. We only remove nests that are old, abandoned, or where no birds or eggs are present.

If your chimney is blocked, smoking, or hasn't been inspected in a while, we’re here to help. Our expert team will remove any obstruction and ensure your chimney is clean, safe, and ready to use.

Our Blockage Removal Service Includes:
